Livestock Manager
Vermont Compost Company is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Livestock Manager to oversee the wellbeing of our equine herd and chicken flock. The Livestock Manager will monitor the health and hygiene of our livestock, develop and implement an equine training program (in conjunction with ownership), and oversee / perform all chicken-related tasks. The Livestock Manager’s time is typically split between equine and chicken duties.
The successful candidate will have 2 - 5 years of large draft animal experience (preferably experience with the care and training of donkeys on farm work), the ability to work individually as well as on a team, the ability to operate (or learn to operate) a front end loader, strong time management skills, an interest in compost production, and a sense of humor.
The position is based in Montpelier, VT and work will be performed during regular business hours. The pay range for this position is $20 - $30 per hour (depending on experience) plus a generous benefits package including health and dental insurances; a Simple IRA retirement plan with company match; short and long-term disability insurance; life insurance; an Employee Assistance Program; employee-pricing; and paid time off.
Fulfillment & Food Residuals Crew Member
Vermont Compost Company is also seeking a Fulfillment & Food Residuals Crew Member to join our team. The Fulfillment and Food Residual departments each play a critical role in the creation and distribution of our compost-based products. This position holds responsibilities in both departments, including collection of food scraps, distribution of totes, and bagging/palletizing products. This is an entry level position that provides room for professional growth to candidates actively seeking to expand their skill set.
The Crew Member will participate in loading and unloading of materials, as well as operate a box truck (non-CDL), front end loaders, and mechanical packaging equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. Success in this role will require the ability to work effectively in a team environment, a willingness to work in various weather conditions, and the ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs and maneuvering heavy totes. A valid driver’s license and ability to meet insurance stipulations for operating a Vermont Compost motor vehicle is required.
Preferred qualifications for this position include two - five years of experience in production, warehouse and/or fulfillment operations, knowledge of heavy equipment and capabilities, and knowledge of mechanical systems and compost making practices; however, candidates with any combination of experience and skills likely to provide the skills, knowledge and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position will be considered.
This is a full-time position starting at $18 - $20 per hour (depending on experience) plus benefits, including health, dental and vision insurances; a Simple IRA retirement plan with company match; short and long-term disability insurance; life insurance; an Employee Assistance Program; employee-pricing; and paid time off.
The position is based in Montpelier, VT and most work will be performed during regular business hours, Monday - Friday; work outside of regular business hours will occasionally be required.
